My career started with a very different path. I am a qualified Chartered Accountant and as such have spent many years working for organisations and business in a fast paced, highly pressured and stressful environment. I always knew that I wanted to do something that gave me an enhanced sense of purpose and fulfillment, for me that comes from helping people and empowering them be the best that they can be. A few years ago I decided to see a hypnotherapist for a phobia and although a spider will never be my best friend, I no longer feel the need to climb the nearest piece of furniture to get away from them. In fact, I am now able to calmly deal with the situation, even getting them in a pint glass and putting them outside. For those of us who dislike these critters, you will know, that’s quite a change!
After my own experiences with hypnosis, I became very interested in hypnotherapy and how it can be used to create such a powerful, positive and lasting change. I began to research and discovered that there are so many aspects of life that can be positively impacted and enhanced using hypnosis, as our unconscious mind is very powerful and it is the key to any change. The more I researched the more I knew that I wanted to use hypnotherapy, combined with my professional background and experience to help people.
My corporate background means that I have an in depth and personal understanding of businesses. Therefore, I am able to work with individuals, groups and businesses alike. I have worked with an International Telecommunications Company, offering hypnotherapy sessions for their employees at their UK based head offices. More and more organisations are seeing the increasing impact of stress and anxiety on their employees. Research shows in 2020 approximately 79% of all UK employees say that they feel worn out by work and suffer from work related stress. This makes work related stress the most common form of stress in the UK and has increased 20% in the last 2 years. This accounts for mental illnesses and over 50% of work absences, costing British businesses an estimated 12.8m in lost working days.
The impact of COVID has seen a significant increase in mental health issues and the need for support. Organisations have a social and ethical responsibility to their employees to support their mental health and well-being. Increasing well-being and reducing stress also has a positive impact on productivity, so we are all winners! From an individual’s perspective, it is not just work that can cause stress and anxiety, so many aspects of life can leave us feeling this way, especially with the added pressures of COVID. However, hypnosis is not just beneficial for stress and anxiety, it can be used as a successful tool to help with many areas of an individual’s personal life. Our mind is incredibly powerful and influences not only the way we think and feel but also our physical body.
